These days it can be hard to tell what is good for us, and what is not good for us. There are so many conflicting reports coming out each week in the news about how carcinogenic some food is, when we were previously told it was beneficial, or not impactful to our health. It can be exhausting and often downright confusing trying to keep up with how to give our bodies the nourishment they need to be strong and health and to fight against chronic diseases and infections.
One thing is certain though – organic meat is the only choice for anybody who is health conscious. There has been much debate for a long time over the difference between non-organic meat versus organic, however the evidence is undeniable and the wide variety of studies conducted all over the globe have proven that organic meat is not only healthier, but tastier too.
Check out some of the top reasons to purchase organic meat, rather than non-organic.
No Antibiotics
To be certified as organic, all animals raised for meat must never receive any antibiotics. Antibiotics are given to many animals being raised for meat to protect against disease, as well as to promote faster growth. However, many reports have raised concerns that some of the antibiotics may remain in the meat from the animal and could be responsible for infectious organisms to the human consumers building up a high resistance to antibiotic treatments.
No Hormones
Similar to the ban on antibiotics, animals raised for organic meat must never receive any growth inducing hormones. The presence of hormones in meat is believed to lead to an increased risk of diseases such as cancer, as well as elevated hormone levels in humans.
Better fed animals = better taste and benefits for you
A large number of organic cattle raised for beef are “grass-fed”, which means that rather than being fed non-organic corn and other cheap grains, they are able to graze on organic grassland for the duration of their life, which in turn produces leaner, tastier cuts of meat.
Tests carried out on beef from grass-fed cattle have shown that the nutritional composition of the meat is higher than in grain-fed, as grass is the natural food choice for cattle. Organic grass-fed beef has higher omega-3 counts, less saturated fat and has a more palatable consistency overall.
There is no doubt that organic meat wins over non-organic. There has never been a better reason to treat yourself to a grass-fed organic steak for dinner!
